Acting Up (Mason, OH)

 Who's Who

  • Becky Corstanje

(Costume Designer) Becky is one of the founding members of Acting Up and its first president. She is a Registered Nurse with a BSN from Wright State University and an MS from The Ohio State University. She enjoys staying involved with AU even though her children, Kalyn and Kase have graduated and gone off to college. She has won many Orchid Awards for producing and costume design which has become her creative outlet in her old age.

  • Brent Peebles

(Set Design) Brent has designed sets for many Acting Up shows, winning Orchid awards for the designs of Disney's Mulan Jr., The Wizard of Oz, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Tom Sawyer, and Seussical. Brent has also directed five Acting Up shows, and received an Orchid for Excellence in Direction for Acting Up's The Wizard of Oz. Brent can occasionally be seen onstage. He most recently appeared in Spamalot with Fairfield Summer Theatre and Bye Bye Birdie with Greater Hamilton Civic Theatre (for which he won an Orchid Award to playing "Albert Peterson"). His other favorite past roles include "Cat in the Hat" (Brieabi's Seussical), and Scrooge (MCP's Scrooge the Musical). During the theater "off hours," Brent acts as a patent attorney for P&G.

  • Steve Fair

(Set Design) Steve has been involved with Acting Up since the Fall of 2008 when his oldest daughter, Abby, was cast in Footloose the Musical. A little known fact is that Steve also made his Acting Up stage debut during that same play: During one performance, the curtains opened prior to the church pews being completely placed. Mind you, he did not have a speaking role but he kept the pew from falling during the entire scene! Since then he has enjoyed building sets for a total of ten productions and two FunRaisers. Steve has a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Thomas More College and an MBA from Xavier University. Outside of work, Steve enjoys carpentry, electronics, mechanics and of course building sets.

 SYNOPSIS OF OUR SHOW:

The play opens with the creation story from the Book of Genesis. Eve is drawn to the tree of knowledge, even though Father has warned her to stay away. However, Eve still hungers for something more. Adam is faced with a decision that could change their lives forever. Adam and Eve have two children, Cain and Abel. Eve realizes that the same fire is in her son which leads to a second shattering of their peacefulness. Father decrees that Cain's descendants will always bear a mark for the sin.  After Cain's departure from the family and the birth of another son, Eve prays that her children and her children's children will regain the garden that was lost.

Act II opens with "Generations," the many descendants of Seth, down to Noah and his family. Father tells Noah that a storm is coming, so Noah and his sons have built a boat to face the coming storm. Noah is unhappy with one of his son's choice for a wife. After all of the animals board the ark, the rain comes. As surprises await them, Noah's wife asks him if Father speaks to him anymore. Noah sings of the difficulties that he has faced in being a father, while at the same time Father sings of the problems he has faced in being a father. Father gives humanity the power to control their fate as the family expresses their intention to return to be Children of Eden.
